"Not yet... So that I can hear the story of retirement" Kim Hyun-soo's 2025 season

Kim Hyun-soo (37), who has been sluggish for the past two years, has begun training in the U.S. with desperation.

Kim left for Arizona, the U.S., the site of the first training camp, via Incheon International Airport on Sunday. "I think I should do well. Everyone did well, but I was the only one who failed to meet expectations," he said. "I will compete well (with my teammates) and win." 안전놀이터

Kim had a batting average of 0.294 with eight homers and 69 RBIs in 137 games last year. He had shown sluggish performance for two consecutive seasons in 2023 (batting average of 0.293 with six homers and 88 RBIs). "In 2023, LG won the combined championship, which has buried some of my sluggishness. Last year, I changed my skills a lot (technically), but I think (the flying distance) fell a lot because I was concerned about accuracy," Kim said.

Kim Hyun-soo, who signed a four-plus-two-year contract worth 11.5 billion won three years ago, is also aware of his negative assessment. "I've heard a lot about 'retire' over the past two years, but I think it's still a little fast," he said, emphasizing that he will make such a sound fit.

Kim Hyun-soo, a "hitting machine," has a batting average of 0.313. His slugging percentage is as high as 0.477 for his accuracy. He is a mid- to long-distance player who has hit 11 double-digit home runs while using Jamsil Stadium, the largest in Korea, as his home ground. However, the number of home runs in the two recent seasons remained at 6-8, and the slugging percentage was as low as 0.383-0.418. Despite the surge in the number of home runs in the league last year, Kim's slugging percentage did not recover.

As LG seeks to regain the top position, its batting structure can improve only when its main batter Kim Hyun-soo recovers. He was in charge of the third to fourth batting order at LG, but his batting order was pushed back to seventh last year. "His long-range hitting power has decreased so much that I have to pay attention to it. I have confirmed that his bat speed and condition have not deteriorated at all," Kim said. "I studied a lot about why his long-range and long-range hitting fell, and I understood what he lacked in. I will come up with a good batting mechanism."

The 2025 season is the last year of Kim's four-year contract. The LG Twins have the option of a two-year contract. "These are not conditions that can be successfully achieved. It is determined whether the team meets the four-year cumulative performance," Kim said. "If we pay attention (to extending the +2-year option), we will not be able to play as a team. I will not make excuses. We need to make sure that people tell us to retire."
